Janet is a UK-trained Health Psychology Practitioner and Certified Mindfulness Trainer. For most the day she works in a leading rehabilitation hospital where she offers health psychology interventions for clients recovering from surgery, amputees, survivors of stroke and traumatic accidents, and others with chronic illnesses and conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and fibromyalgia.
As one of the pioneering certified Mindfulness Trainers in Malta, since 2014, Janet taught mindfulness meditation to the general public, at the University of Malta, VGH St. Luke’s and VGH Karen Grech Hospitals, and Corradino Correctional Facility, amongst others.
She also has ample experience with teaching anger-, stress- and pain-management skills and often delivers lectures to other healthcare professionals. As from January 2018, she will be acting the role of visiting Health Psychology lecturer at the University of Malta.
Perhaps her most dominant quality is her mindful and compassionate presence which is known to make her clients feel at ease and understood. Janet is also passionate about empowering others to find a way to savour the beauty of life – particularly when, at face value, life seems meaningless. To this end she strives to help her clients change their relationship with their experience (of illness or otherwise) rather than trying to ‘fix what is broken’.
Her commitment to helping others set her on a lifelong quest for learning new therapeutic skills. She started her career as a Beauty Therapist, Fitness and Nutrition Consultant, Vegan and Vegetarian Nutrional Consultant and Reiki Practitioner. Soon she realized that for her interventions to be more effective, she needed to understand what goes on in people’s minds as well as the many factors that contribute to their way of behaving and thinking. Consequently, she earned a batchelor’s degree in Psychology and later a master’s degree in Health Psychology. She then acquired a Mindfulness Teacher qualification, and received training in Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
Her varied educational and professional background together with her aptitude ensure that her interventions are evidence-based, truly holistic, dynamic and client-centred.
